Hopes? Breakfast!
Reality? An impressively filling offer at this price.
First Impressions? Mamuka Cafe's jazzy background music makes for a light relaxing atmosphere and it's not the slightest bit rushed, manic or shouty - unlike some well-known Malasaña locations.
USP? A genuinely vintage location repurposed - it's an old printer's office - and therefore not in need of any faked attempts to zhuzh it down.
The offer in three words? Down to Earth.
Service? Fine. A bit lacking in personality, but perhaps it was a late Friday the night before. Oddly serviettes only arrived with the main dish.
Fancy a Grind? We were pleased Mamuka offering Supracafe,
Eat me! A nice trio here.
Some very creamy greek yoghurt with the granola, although I would have liked a little more action in the fruit department. A very fresh slice of chocolate chip cake, too. although I'd have liked something with blueberry or banana, given the optiom. Orange juice is sound.
The waffle, egg and bacon dish will certainly set you up for the day. In theory huevos camperos, there's more cheese going on in them than I've ever had in that recipe. So in this case, think cheese omelette scrambled. A fair amount of bacon, but I'd have rather had it crisped up - or offer jamon serrano as an alternative, maybe as the overall saltiness really needs to be stronger to balance the syrup. Anyway, if they-re all like this, Mamuka is serving as hearty a breakfast/brunch as I can remember and you'll be well fed for a good few hours,
Friend friendly? As you'd expect. Easily doable.
Rating for dating? Location's good. Decor's fine. Food would suit.
Change one thing? A chocolate-free cake would have made me very happy.
Revisitability? Maybe there are more polished-looking, Instagram-friendly brunches around, you might say. But. You can book. There are no time limits on tables. You're not squashed into a tiny space listening to the couple next door busy splitting up and discussing who gets custody of the hamster. There's a calm, easy going atmosphere, where you can hear yourself think. That works.
