Mexkhal - the story

Hopes? Something Mexican that's new to us.
Reality? Decent food and service, but the offer at Mexkhal doesn't warrant the price.
First Impressions? It's orange, And green, Nice mexican bits, bobs and flags.
The offer in three words? Pricey standard Mexican.
Service? Aimiable and everything came in good time.
On tap? Mahou.
Friend friendly? Vegetarian menu is creatable with a bit of choice navigating.
Rating for dating? Food's a good fit, but the pricing just won't work for everyone.
Tip? Small one, for good service.
Change one thing? Foodwise, we need to feel someone really loves this food. It's all a bit Friday afternoon, this'll do, can I go nowGive us details. Sauces. Condiments. Even just some classic imported products from Mexico would do. They don't have to be homemade. Either way, they would add character and, yes, fun!
Revisitability? Just not enough going on to pull us back.

Eat and Drink me! Margarita prepared slushy style, not a shaken cocktail. Serviceable, there's no real reason to have another one, though. Trio de Sopes brings you decent set of mini tortillas. with some tasty toppings - cochinita and chorizo among them - which are all more deeply flavoured than I might have expected. There's loads of cream and greenery going on, but it's fine and doesn't feel like padding. This is a decent sharing plate for two. A good choice.

Pipian Verde impressively, this and the next dish are entire  - well-cooked, no pinkness evident - chicekn quarters - so we're talking a good portion size. It's not the white meat many prefer, although obviously the flavour's dinstinctly stronger. The verde sauce is decent, although could be punchier. The rise portion is a decent size  Chicken Mole is identical in portion size to the Pipian, but the rich dark sauce here is much more like it and there's loads of it. Recommended of the two.

Tarta tres leches chocolate is at least a bit different, as it's got the essential moistness but that unexpected flavour element. We'd like stronger chocolate. Maybe even with a chilli flake or two in there. Cheesecake felt homeeade, and some red, fruity jammy stuff added some contrast, but it's sweet and industrial, when it could be homemade and an extra dimension of something sweet and a little spicy to feel a bit special. Oh well.
