The Story
Hopes? We just want a smart Chueca restaurant to show a bit of heart.
Reality? Multi-national menu that doesn't go anywhere very interesting.
First Impressions? The second place on the street with a meaningless umlaut over a vowel. And the choice of name...where's that coming from?
USP? Should be the varied menu in a chi-chi setting.
The offer in three words? Just too predictable.
Service? Fine. One issue was corrected, although not as quickly as it could have been.
Eat me! Mezze de Carne is a pretty generous plate, but unttractively presented, dominated by shades of brown. Does two meat elements out of six make a meat dish? Hmmm. Most of it was fine to good, the corral chicken was a tasty muddle of shards of meat. Two different cheeses were pleasant enough, The spinach rolls were deep fried and enjoyable.
Although three for two people was odd, and they absolutely did not go with the attached sweet salsa. Two lamb samosas were stone-cold on the inside and had to be replaced. It's a star off, instantly. Signs of a rushed kitchen? Or not a very well managed one?
Chicken Tagine was correctly named. But only becuase it was served in one. This was actually a dish of oddly - but not unpleasantly - flavoured shredded chicken and assorted vegetables on a bed of cous-cous. A tagine is a casserole. That means sauce. This had none. At all. Ungood.
Chuletas de cordero was a generous portion. And they were well-cooked - by which I mean not over or under, but properly juicy and fresh. Very solidly done. Some unusual waffly-looking potato chips were good, taking on plenty of the cooking juices. Over-seasoned slightly, though. We didn't try desserts today.
Friend friendly? Certainly a selection of vegetarian dishes, that, looking at the menu might well be vegan, We didn't ask as we weren't trying them.
Rating for dating? The ambience could be about right, although not if there's a large group sitting nearby, showing off loudly. If you're looking for conservative food options you'll find them. If that's what you want. What you really, really want.
Tip? No.
Change one thing? I really really want a bit of ziz-a-zig-aaah!
Revisitability? Minimal, unless someone else is paying the bill.
