The Story
Hopes? Either great classic Italian flavours or something interestingly different.
Reality? Sometimes you try the aperitif or first dish, and think "Hello, we've got one here!"
First Impressions?  Three different seating areas. Bar, lounge, dining. We went old school. I wasn't expecting to see a high voltage junction box above my head.
USP? Uniquely Serves Pork.
The offer in three words? Italian. Zzuzhed up.
Service? Couldn't be more friendly. But two staff to cook and serve potentially 20+ covers is pushing it. And things could have been smoother and quicker.
On tap? 5 on tap. We tried Urguell pilsner. At €3.20 for a very large glass. Value!
Eat me! Pecorino al Peperoncino. Some punchy sheepy triangles, at room temperature (points scored for that) with a hint of chilli. They're matched with a pear chutney so good we'd buy it to take home, plus excellent fresh pizza bread and a few nuts. It's like Christmas come early. Give me tinsel. Pizza Diavola is well topped, although the dough divided us. Fermented for 36 hours, it's rather thicker, shorter and so less crunchuly explosive than I would ideally choose. While it's not entirely my cup of tea, the combination of toppings as well chosen as these are won me round. Smoked cheese. Spicy spianata calabrese - sweeter than a chorizo, but still with a kick - and red pesto as well as tomato. It's a good one. And it doesn't have 'nduja on it! Focaccia Zio Rosso is a really interesting dish and shows some proper cooking knowledge. it starts off with quite a sweet hit from the apple, then slowly but surely it adds heat to the finish from more spianata. Kudos to the chef for that bit of flavour design.
Pizza Diavola
Friend friendly? You might be surprised. The branding and menu (and the decor) are heavy on the porcine references but, like any decent Italian, there are options for all.
Rating for dating? Yep. Plenty of options, talking points and so on.
Tip? Absolutely.
Change one thing? We appreciate the USP, but a non-pork meat dish would be good.
Revisitability? Plenty more things to try. So it's revistable and recommendable. You should go. There, done.
