The Story
Hopes? A taste of America. but not that Taste of America.
Reality? Compromise is not on the agenda. You could be in Calgary, Vancouver or any number of North American cities.
First Impressions? Well-decorated space with some classic 80s hits playing in the background. Yes. I want my MTV.
USP? Barbecued/smoked meat cuts presented on serving platters. Who else is doing that?
The offer in three words? Meet for meat.
Service? Friendly. Started superbly, then the 5-strong serving team seemed to get distracted by bar tasks as the customer numbers went up. Odd.
On tap? Up to 10 draught beers on offer. Alhambra is, commendably, the default.
Eat me! Menu. Beef Bone is a 400g chunk of beef rib. It's very good indeed. Genuinely, entirely melt-in-the-mouth. Seasoning is simply salt and pepper, so it's open season for a table sauce tasting session. Be sure to ask for the Habenero if it's not on the table. Acidic and spicy, but not an explosive endurance test. The ketchup is also delicious with a hint of mustard in the background. The BBQ sauce has the flavour, but should be thicker. It needs to coat.
That said, that sauce is an excellent addition to the Pulled Pork Burger. Full disclosure. I'm not a massive fan of PP, but this dish is very well done and not oversweet thankfully. It comes in at a good value €13.50, with fries included, too. Said fries are excellent. Nicely seasoned. Skin on. Full size and evidently home-made. We could have had even more than we got. We added a homemade Sausage which certainly had the flavour right, but two notes occured to us. The casing was tougher than we expected and, while it combined perfectly with that terrific ketchup, it would have matched with a mustard even better. A selection of house Pickles were great too, excellent as palate cleansers, although €2, in a service model without gratis apertifs or chupitios, doesn't feel generous.
Stout Tiramisu demanded trying, and it's a clever idea, replacing the coffee and alcoholic elements with one beverage. It's a geneorous portion size and it nearly works. Only issue is a very soggy bottom. It's swamping rather than flavouring the sponge, We're not here just for the beer. Not always, anyway. Sometimes less is - well, you know.
Friend friendly? With this menu's USP, it's just not happening for the V-communities, really.
Rating for dating? Don't think it lends itself to early-stage encounters. You need to know your dining partner's likes and dislikes if you're booking here. If not - Awkward Silence Klaxon!
Tip? Yes, but it was going to be better.
Change one thing? A wider range of seating options would add to the decor and help those of us who like a touch of comfort. And lumbar support.
Revisitability? Yep, good. Menu is offering something hard to find elsewhere. Job done,

Beefbone, fries, sausage
