The Story
Hopes? Meet the Metropoli-set expectations.
Reality? Three hits but, sadly, also a miss.
First Impressions? Stylish and smart interior. Loads of early 20th century Madrid cafe style, with modern influences, and lots of Katie Melua providing a subtle Georgian touch.
USP? Nearest Kachapuri to Gran Via & Cibeles.
The offer in three words? Not quite there.
Service? First class. Friendly, alert and as quick as you'd hope.
On tap? Mahou! You're in Madrid!
Eat me! Kicking off with some deliciously seasoned roasted tomatoes and some of the amazing bread Georgia does so well, past experience is three dishes does the job where in other cuisines you order four. Gebjalia arrives looking very pretty. The spicy, herby sauce adds interest to the fresh cheese rolls, so this does taste as good as it looks. Extra bread to exploit the sauce came rapidly, which was nice.

As well as better quality meat, there were flavours missing from Mtsvadi, not least the pomegranate we would have expected. One small halved potato felt lost amongst the pork, which didn't look like it'd been skewered, but pan-fried. We'd hoped for some kind of rich sauce, but there was simply oil and crisped onions. Next time, different choice.

Third dish? Kachapuri Adjurili is the go-to and the big test. Brought to the table with egg yolk intact, then expertly muddled by a very amiable server, we have raved about this dish before, and at €14 this is a good value version. The cheese-butter-egg mix (we pause to let your arteries recover from hearing about it) was more liquid - initially - than some past ones, but fork-twirling helped that along. It's very good. There was no room for dessert today.
Friend friendly? Vegetarian, no problem as long as you're OK with dairy. Vegan, doesn't seem a good fit.
Rating for dating? Decor and atmo are promising. Sadly the earnest - and loud - conversation about the Spanish education system - Flirting opportunity cul-de-sac, or what? - behind me suggested one was ongoing, but not going on terribly well.
Change one thing? Perhaps starter portion size options? A taster for two against full size for a table of four?
