Tostadas with Tinga was a decent-sized bowl, although one of us wasn't taken with warm chicken, crunchy tortillas and cold salad combined. There's a lot of sauce or liquid in the bottom of this dish and it feels like some of the depth of flavour might be lost in it.
Cochinita was delicious, as part of a platter with plenty of trimmings. In fact maybe too many. We'd have swapped the rice for more molé if we'd seen the dish in advance. The meat is one of the tastiest versions of this dish I've had. It did its job well. It was moreish. It all disappeared. ¡Exito!
Carnitas was another really generous portion of very fresh, really juicy porky pieces. Excellently cooked they needed some help, though. We couldn't get much sense of seasoning. A little lime juce helped, but it needed a lot more to really fly. And this is where we point out that all the dishes hiere would benefit from more sauces on the table to add some oomph, fun and authenticity to the experience. Mexico's not a country that's short on them. Get some Tajín on there and it'd be brilliant!
A box of corn tortillas came with these two and, again, we can't fault the generous serving - we couldn't finish them.
Pastel de Elote was a winner of a pudding. Think a generous square of warmed cornbread meets sponge. Strawberry ice cream's a real winner on this as it does the temperature and flavour contrast business perfectly.
Service was friendly and quick. Decor was festive. Coronitas were cold. It's chilly. The beer's chilly. Please, more chilli!
