Not exactly Chicken Little
No hanging about. For value for money, Rooster's getting a spot on the HM:recommended list. Three special things going on here help put it high up the pecking order.
It's Flavourful
Everything here tasted excellent and often has a little extra touch to it that surprises and pleases. Fries come spiced, North American style. Gaucho potatoes - i.e. very chunky chip things - come with a creamy, spicy dipping sauce which, against the rules of reviewing. I am half-hoping Rooster buy it in because I want a bottle or two. Chicken wings are coated in a spicy crunch that demands beer to make the most of it. Our burgers' chicken breasts - grilled or fried - are juicy and a fresh as they can be. La Slaw added the same slaw as came with the Chicken pack. The Queen covered its chicken in a load of guacamole and added some bacon. Excellent combinations. Both would benefit from cutlery if you've got it, we should say, and came on very fresh brioche buns.
In the end we're talking fast food, yes, but that doesn't mean it's junk food. These are tasty, well thought out dishes with decent ingredients.
Size matters
For Madrid, this is a relatively rare excursion into something approaching North American portion control. Yep, you get a lot of grub. Our three dishes could have fed four easily. We've got enough stuff sitting in the fridge for lunch later in the week. This is value for money par excellence and was consistent across our order. The Chicken Pack is a starter platter in name only as really it's a main course and half in disguise. Burgers contain a whole chicken breast - we just about preferred the fried version, but it's a close call - along with a heft of spuds of your choice. The fries won out over the gauchos. But the latter came with that splendid take-no-prisoners creamy spicy sauce. Tricky one next time...
The Devil is in the detail
Fun slogans written on the paper-based packaging, mini towels, two different spicy dipping sauces, fresh guacamole and slaw. All of this on a busy Saturday afternoon? Someone's put a lot of thought into the offer and someone's working hard in a kitchen to produce it.
Result? Very impressed customers and a return order coming before long. Don't chicken out - give Rooster a go.
