Verdict? Well, the fact is, ultra-thin bases don't retain heat for too long and so don't lend themselves too well to travelling to your door - ours arrived about as fresh as they could have done, but it's the nature of the thing that that doesn't last as long as you might like. That said, the toppings were smart, interesting, different and filling for a decent Friday dinner.

Long established with a reputation in Lavapies, L y L is now also delivering from a base on Calle Loreto y Chicote near Luna, with a menu with what looks like a longer list with some different options to the Lavapies operation. Beechwood, fig marmalade reduction and boquerones in vinegar and chips are waiting to be found on the menu. Not all on the same base, mind.
How do things work out? We went for two pizzas from the lengthy list. Aside from drinks, that list is the entire offer at Loreto and Chicote.
Mexicana is the newcomer on the block. Cheese-free, there are classic Mexican influences on the menu. The combination of marinated shredded chicken and red peppers is distinctive, although the tequila didn't come through as much as it might. Frijoles as a base make for something quite different too. There's red onion for crunch and texture.
Peperoni offers lots of positives at the more classical end of the scale: not too much cheese, some properly blasted and carbonised dough, peperoni with a little bite and that egg adds a bit of cream even when it's unavoidably arrived well done. The tomato still has a decent amount of flavour, although we added some oil to put a bit of juiciness back in.

Prices aren't the cheapest, although the unique nature of the pizza toppings justifies that reasonably. No desserts or starters are on offer from the Malasaña site. A bit of a shame, although an improvised lemon sorbet and vodka worked pretty darn well to finish things off nicely.
We're certainly aiming for a sit-down visit as and when to see more of the menu. In the meantime, we'll keep L y L in mind and say you should too.
