In Short
Hopes. Authenticity?
Reality. Starters pass the test, mains are getting there.
USP? Yum yum Tom-yum
The offer in three words. Spicy big portions.
Sustainability? Plastic paper ratio: 100:0. Potentially reusable containers. Industrial clingfilm.
Friend friendly? No tofu on the deliveroo ordering page.
Change one thing? Fresh herbs.
Reorderability. Good, but price makes one think about it. And maybe look around.

What's the story?
It's a pretty decent offer from Khao Thai, but you need to make an informed choice as Thai at home isn't the cheapest choice on the Madrid home delivery listing.

Tom Yum Gai
A proper lemongrass spicing hit like sucking a spicy sherbet lemon. Four juicy prawns and lots of mushrooms are present and correct. There's a bucketload of it. Good news for enthusiasts - it's a back of the throat warming, authentic-style flavour and well worth trying.

Satay
Another classic. It's one of our given rules that if the classic are good, the specials should be worth a go, so consider this a test. Four skewers isn't a bad offer at all - in fact it's a better offer than some mains we've had recently elsewhere. There's some nice salary garnish too, which is handy to finish off the excellent sauce. As good a satay as I've had in Madrid.

Panang & Red Thai
We have to credit great portion sizes for both these dishes, with plenty of thin cut chicken and loads of vegetables. But while we can't fault the generosity, it's spot the difference time, as these two dishes are just so similar in look and taste, with only courgette in one - and I can't recall which one - as an identifier. Both have a similar sauciness fault too. It's either just too oily or possibly split. We'd have liked some fresh herbs too. They'd add a touch of acidity. So ok curries, but not as polished as those smart starters.

Packaging
All plastic, but at least it's the sort you can reuse for sandwiches, etc, so not entirely unsustainable. Some serious clingfilm usage takes a bit of dismantling to get into the dishes, but they arrive in good shape. Oh, and for sustainability, it's coming on a bike not a scooter. Domestic policy is to tip in person not via the app, btw.

So, enough food to have some curry left over for a second serving. Some proper, spicy favours. But it's not cheap. You might like to look around, but for it and you'll be happy with most of your order, and if the curries come off, quite possibly all of it.
