What's the story?
A smart selection of eclairs adds to Conde Duque's growing collection of specialist shops. Vegan donuts? Check. Smart handmade cheeses? Yep. Vegetable-based trifle & sorbet bar? Give it time, Tarquin.

We had two treats on trip 1. Raspberry and Choc & Vanilla. Both fully formed fingers of french-style creamy confection.

Raspberry is filled with a raspberry creme with a nice fresh acidity rather than sweetness, the chocolate has a nice custardy middle and, genius texture touch, little crunchy biscuity balls on top which add saltiness too. They're two pretty works of art and taste as good as they look. Which in a city full of plastic splodge-o-cream and cakes with more colour than flavour is no bad thing. A couple of treats from here, a few more from the other shops nearby and you've got a picnic ready to go.

Trip 2 brought a selection box full of these beautiful smaller versions and two additional flavours; Pistachio and Lemon.

Eclair Madrid

We added pistachio (predictably creamy and nutty); lemon (think lemon meringue pie, with all tastes and textures present and correct).

The plain white box is a bit of an undersell when Manolo Bakes has invested in some very fancy packaging, but it's surely nicely recyclable.

All told, these are pastries as unMadriddy as desserts round this neck if the woods are likely to get.

So you should try them!
