In Short
Hopes? Top notch crepes, peut-ĂȘtre?
Reality? Sacre bleu! C'est vrai! Les crepes sont top notch!
First Impressions? Pleasingly spacious and simply decorated. Looks uncomplicatedly stylish.
A USP? As good a crepe as you're likely to find at as good a price.
The food in three words? Ohh la la!
Can they get the staff? We can't fault the server for dealing with an entire restaurant single-handed,  but simply for her own sake she - and the food - deserved another pair of hands or two.
Ser vice with a smile? Wonderfully aimiable even when rushed of her feet. If we put staff into h:m recommended we would.
Would you take your friends? Yes. And encourage them to try it out.
Rating for a dating? Perhaps a bit raucous, but the decor is right and the menu is lightish and diet-flexible.
Tip? The usual 5% ish.
Change one thing?Add aircon. We know full well how things can be with installing it, but in mid-July you feel it when it's not there.
Going back? Yes, absolutely. Only waiting for slightly cooler weather.

In Depth
We're between Lavapies and Latina. On one of the many streets between Embajadores and Meson de Paredes. They're easily confusable. Escape Rooms and cheap jewellery wholesalers are all around. The area's like a plastic crystal maze.

It's time to follow a recommendation from HK and, leaving the underappreciated French accents at home, alons-y!

Decor's great. Simple. More spacious than one would expect and at 2030 almost empty. It won't stay that way.

We're quickly into the menu. A whole page of savoury crepes, with plenty for the Vegetarian - although we didn't ask after any for the Vegan - is matched, very unusually for Madrid, by a full page

...let's just pause for a moment...

Did you just say A. FULL. PAGE?

of dessert versions. There are dozens on offer. Instant decision. Starters can go jump. It's going to be 1+1. Shared desserts? Not tonight, Josephine!

La Minoterie

Between us we get through three savoury offerings. Geometrically-speaking, triangles and squares predominate. Knowing it's hip to be square, I go for three cheeses, with some herbs adding a smidge of acidity to cheese that looks on first sight disconcertinly like diced chicken. It is delicious. Salmon and cheese is also excellent. Mushrooms are just as tasty, although a bit out of seaons for me to be ordering today. Even that salad garnish adds something. A hint - but no more, Romeo, of balsamic is present. We all know that's enough.

Desserts. A trio of delights, with dulce de lech featuring heavily. Apple tatin was great. Pear and chantilly is also up there. A third dulce de leche special didn't disappoint ether. Extra points given for no attempt to Madridise these desserts with the usual awful simulated cream.

Drinks. Luck was on our side here, with the last bottle of Normandy cider in the house purloined by our table. Served in rather stylish ceramic bowls, this was lovely stuff. Not as sweet as the British industrial stuff, not as cava-like as Gaitero and so forth. Recommended. A bottle of nice blanco, by necessity in an ice bucket, followed up the cider.

Service was spectacularly good for us, but I'd not want to have arrived an hour later as, with only one server on the go, things were clearly getting behind elsewhere. Nervous and impatient looks were begining to be cast and eventually a chef abandoned the kitchen and delegated himself to serving duties. We'd not want to fault the tone and friendliness for a moment, though.

But 20-plus covers is simply too much work for one person. Someone running the bar and doing the bills would sort things out at a stroke.

You can do set lunch here for €11. You could do dinner for less than €20 easily if you weren't bent on trying new drinks. Absolutely worth a visit.
